Liverpool Life Sciences Network Launch Event - Thurs 4th March 2010

news item image The Liverpool Life Sciences Network launches on Thursday 4th March at an event hosted by 2Bio Ltd., and sponsored by Liverpool Vision, bringing together the thriving community of life science innovators, companies, investors and professionals that operate in and around Liverpool.

The guest speakers are Dr. Allan Marchington, a Partner at Apposite Capital LLP, an independent investment firm focused exclusively on healthcare opportunities in the UK and USA, and Dr. John March, founder and CEO of Big DNA Ltd., an early-stage vaccine company, based on innovative technology. The venue will be Liverpool John Moores University’s brand new £24.1m Art & Design Academy.

Dr Rhys Roberts, Director of 2Bio Ltd., said “The Liverpool Life Sciences Network will provide a real opportunity for the life sciences community here to build a series of tailored successful networking events.

“The Liverpool Life Sciences Network, like it’s forerunner, the MerseyBIO networking events, will offer excellent opportunities to connect with people in our network, and although this is focused in Liverpool and the city region, as you will see from our inaugural guest speakers, it extends to the rest of the UK and beyond.”

The Liverpool Life Sciences Network has been supported and made possible by Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company, with support from Liverpool City Council, DCLG and the Homes and Communities Agency. Liverpool Vision is focused on building a strong and sustainable economy which can compete more effectively in international markets.

Mike Taylor, Liverpool Vision’s Director of Investment and Enterprise said: “Liverpool’s life science innovators and businesses are a key part of the Knowledge Economy, with areas of excellence that contribute to Liverpool’s standing on the world stage.

“Liverpool’s presence at the World Expo in Shanghai will be a great opportunity to show what this sector’s offer is, and in June our pavilion in Shanghai will be dedicated to Science and Innovation, designed to attract further investment and interest in this key area of our economy.”
