Job Opportunity for Formulation Scientist with Provexis Plc
MerseyBIO-based Provexis Plc, the life-science company that discovers, develops and licenses scientifically-proven technologies for the global functional food, medical and dietary supplement sectors, are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate to join their research and development facility in Liverpool.
The Company currently has a small in-house research team charged with researching the bioactive effects observed, proving the relevance of the observed effects in human trials, and developing suitable formulations for exploitation of the research results. As a results of project expansion, the Company is now seeking to separate the roles of research and formulation development. The area of formulation development is envisaged as a bridge between the projects in the currently active research areas of cardiovascular health, gut health and inflammation, with input into all projects.
Provexis is therefore seeking a Formulation Scientist with an interest in novel product development to take charge of formulation development, and the accompanying QC and safety testing, becoming a key member of their growing Scientific Team.
The Role:
- Working closely with the other Principal Scientists to arrive at a thorough understanding of the issues involved in developing a range of bioactive laboratory extracts into standardised industrial products
- Taking control of formulation development, investigating the most appropriate form for the bioactive extracts of interest in order to maximise biological efficacy
- Commissioning / carrying out appropriate stability and safety testing on pilot-scale formulations
- In conjunction with the COO, sourcing appropriate raw materials investigating costs of industrial processes, and developing relationships with potential industrial parterns
- In conjunction with other Scientific Team members, designing and outfitting a suitable laboratory to be used mainly for analytical chemistry and formulation development - to include appropriate pilot scale facilities for initial small-scale formulation development
- Taking the lead in the setting up of a general laboratory management system and implementing and analytical QC regime to GLP standard
- In conjunction with other Scientific Team members, recruitment of appropriate technical staff
The Candidate:
Education
- Graduate calibre with strong relevant experience in an industrial formulation role, preferably within the food or botanical extract industries.
Experience
- Demonstrable technical experience gained at several levels (e.g. technical, laboratory management, project management), preferably spanning different product types
- Capability in hands-on analytical work, experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, MS and confidence in dealing with the appropriate analytical instruments
- Thorough knowledge of common industrial-scale processes and equipment
- Experience in project management and working to deadlines
- Experience in working, recording and archiving to GLP
- Experience of regulatory standards such as HACCP, or working to MRHA guidelines, an advantage but not essential
Personal Characteristics
A self-starter with strong hands-on leadership, enthusiasm, communication and people skills. Interest in hands-on laboratory work essential; some maintenance of laboratory instruments etc will be necessary. Confidence in running more than one project at one time with the requisite attention to detail.
