Local Life Science Cluster

Liverpool possesses a significant cluster of life science research and clinical activity and established and developing businesses. More than 5,000 people across 100 companies are employed in the sub-regional life science economy which contributes in excess of £2Bn to Merseyside's GDP. Large Pharmaceutical companies have a significant presence in the city with AstraZeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly and Novartis operating large facilities. There is a strong group of mid-size companies with international presence and a rapidly growing community of start-ups focused in and around the Merseybio Incubator.
